Sin crept into the world the very day Adam and his wife, Eve disobeyed God by eating of the tree of Knowledge and wisdom wherein they were warned not to.
The once cordial relationship man had with God was broken and a big gap was built, breaching whatever connection man had with God.
For nearly fifty generations, God had connections with selected persons such as Noah, Abraham, Enoch, Moses, Joshua, David, Solomon, Elijah, Elisha, The Major & Minor Prophets e.t.c but that wasn't enough as millions of others were still under the bondage sin brought with it.
There was then a need for someone to bridge the gap sin created which has been for about fifty generations. The person needed was one who would restore man to his rightful place in fellowship with his maker and Jesus came down as the sacrifice man needed.
His death on the cross of Calvary brought redemption and restoration to man. Of a truth the bondage of sin was lifted, Man was restored, redeemed and freed.
Despite Christ death and the benefits which followed, Man actually needed to accept him before claiming the ultimate gift of freedom from sin and fellowship with God. Even after accepting Christ and his gift the law still had a hold on people to a large extent. People were still under sins hold even after accepting Christ.
Apostle Paul said
"What I do not want to do, that I find myself doing; what I do want to do, that I do not do"
Imagine somebody like Apostle Paul battling with sin. The devil doesn't want to go to hell all alone, he fights tooth and nail to ensure he gets multitude to go with him. His most subtle tool is keeping one under sin's captivity.
But there's cheering news, freedom from sin can be achieved.
Before Jesus ascended, after his death, he told his disciples of the comforter, the holy spirit, whom he was going to send to them. The holy spirit is he that helps us through our Christian life.
Romans 8:5 says
"For they that are after the
flesh do mind the things of
the flesh; but they that are
after the spirit, the things of
the spirit"
It is not of him that wills, freedom from the bondage of sin is only achieved when we walk in God's spirit.
Striving to do it yourself gets you deeper into sins bondage.
The spirit hates sin, so walking in the spirit prevents you from sinning, it's just logical.
Romans 8:8 says
"So they that are in the flesh
cannot please God"
Permit me to paraphrase the above Scripture.
"So they that are in the flesh
cannot be free from the sins
bondage"
Freedom from sin only comes when one allows God's spirit to take over him. Walking in God's spirit total freedom and helps you manifest in and enjoy the gift of Christ death.
