South African government, opposition Welcome US sanctions on the Gupta family

 

The South African government has welcomed the US imposing sanctions on the controversy of Indian origin Gupta family for running a "significant network of corruption" in the country, claiming that the interests of justice should not be hindered by no limit or boundary.

The sanctions, announced by the US Treasury Department on Thursday targeted brothers Atul, Ajay and Rajesh Gupta, and man of South African businessman Salim Essa. They are accused of using their friendship with former President Jacob Zuma of South Africa to benefit financially and influence ministerial appointments.

"The Gupta family to use his political connections to engage in widespread corruption and bribery, the capture of public procurement, and diverting state assets.

The designation of the Treasury aims to play Pay- "" Guptas patronage, which was orchestrated at the expense of the South African people, "Sigal Mandelker, Secretary of the Treasury under terrorism and financial intelligence, said in a statement.

The sanctions prohibit US persons from engaging in transactions with the four men, or entities owned or controlled by them.
